Jure Povšnar, Tina Golob Šušteršič, Mojca Koprivnikar Šušteršič, Mateja Kovač, Ana Vidrih: Analysis of Slovenian companies' performance in 2020, by activity
In 2020, the value added of companies accounted for approximately 59% of the total value added of the Slovenian economy, and under the severe epidemic circumstances it declined slightly, while the decrease in business results was much more pronounced. Although business performance of commercial companies decreased significantly by almost 40%, it was still much better than in the years following the 2008 global financial crisis, because this time companies were in better shape and because the government provided significant financial support. In 2020, the total profit in most of the companies’ economic activities decreased and some also recorded losses. Among the activities with the highest loss were electricity supply activity, which is related to coal mining issues, while the loss in accommodation and food service activities and arts, entertainment and recreational activities was related to the containment measures. In the period 2008–2020, manufacturing activities and transport increased their share in total value added the most, while the largest share decline was in construction.
