Tanja Čelebič: The overview of the situation in selected fields of culture in Slovenia
Slovenia has favourable trends in several cultural fields. The number of visitors to cultural events is relatively high by international standards. General libraries are strengthening their role as cultural institutions in the local environment. Activities to promote reading have been intensified. International cultural activity is increasing. Cultural activities are made possible by a large number of people working in culture and high government spending on culture in an international comparison. In some areas the trends are less favourable. The development of language resources and technologies is too slow and the digitisation of cultural content in some areas is behind the plans. The trends in the book sector are also unfavourable. The movements of performance indicators for cultural enterprises, particularly in the publishing sector, are unfavourable in the long term.
